Structural engineer

Structural input is common where new openings, beams, foundations, roof alterations or other load-bearing changes are proposed.

Building Control

Building Regulations approval is separate from planning. The project will need an appropriate Building Control route where the regulations apply.

Other specialists

Depending on the site and proposal, additional input can include measured or topographical surveys, drainage advice, ecology, arboriculture, party-wall matters, energy assessment and specialist building-services design.

Bring people in when they add value

The aim is not to assemble the largest consultant team possible. The architectural process should identify likely requirements early enough to reduce risk while keeping the team proportionate to the project.

General guidance only. Planning, Building Regulations and project requirements vary by property and circumstances; project-specific advice should be obtained before relying on a particular route.
